The Russian Labor and Social Development Ministry has drafted the federal law “On ratification of the Safety and Health in Mines Convention of 1995 (Convention No 176)”.
The Safety and Health in Mines Convention of 1995 (Convention No 176) was adopted at the 82nd session of the General Assembly of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Geneva on June 22, 1995, and entered into force on June 5, 1998.
The convention establishes universal requirements to the provision of safety, protection of life and health of mine personnel, including safety and health requirements aimed to prevent emergencies, industrial accidents and occupational diseases, and efficient interaction between social partners in the protection of interests of mine personnel.
Russian laws are fully consistent with the main provisions and requirements of the convention; hence their adjustment is not required in the ratification of the convention.
The convention has been ratified by 26 leading coal producing states, among them the United States, Germany, South Africa, Poland and Ukraine.
