The Ministry of Labour and Social Security is continuing to monitor the labour market situation in each Russian region. The monitoring is based on official data submitted by employers to employment agencies on the planned dismissal of employees due to the dissolution of an organisation or a reduction in staff.

“We are continuing to observe the traditional summer reduction in the registered unemployment rate. As of late June, employment agencies registered nearly 955,000 unemployed,” Labour and Social Security Minister Maxim Topilin said.

From June 26 to July 24, 2013, the number of jobless registered by employment agencies fell by 2.4%, or 22,644 people. As of July 24, 2013 it totalled 955,453. “This is the lowest level since 2000,” the Minister stressed.

“Over this period, the unemployment rate fell in 79 regions. The largest reduction was registered in the Yamalo-Nenets and Chukotka Autonomous Areas, the Tyumen Region, the Republic of Tyva, the Kamchatka Territory, and the Chuvash Republic,” Maxim Topilin said.
